Rosa Campuzano Cornejo was an Ecuadorian female leader for the independence. She was born in Guayaquil, in 1796. In the year 1817 she was taken to live in Peru, there Rosita formed part of different meetings where San Martin, a libertador, and other revolutionary participants were planning the independence, the meetings where in her house. In 1818 she was denounced because she was very rebellious and she started reading many prohibited books. Moreover she was denounced because the religion wasn't something so important for her so she broke some laws against it. An interesting fact about Rosita is that she was known as "La protectora" because she was an activist and in her trajectory she had the opportunity to meet José de San Martin, and they had a love affair. In the development of the independence, she also met Manuela Saenz who was a very important woman for Ecuadorian history since she also helped the independence. Together, before the revolution happened they both dress up from their head to the foot with many fabrics because they were planning to full up the city's wall with poster to advise about the independence, but they didn't want people to know their identity in the moment they do it. They also contributed with the independence by working as spies to take information from the soldiers.

Finally, after the independence she decided to create a celebration to honor San Martin. And there San Martin created the "Orden del Sol" where he named Rosa Campuzano, because he also wanted to honor her and other men and women that helped in the honorable history of Ecuador.
